Test drove this the other day to compare with my 2011 Camry Le. I think I prefer mine probably because I’m used to mine and didn’t notice a huge difference. I love this blue color though.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Plus paying $5,500 for mine  (just owe $4500 now and bought it in June) beats paying $17,000 for the newer model.

You financed a $5500 car? I...don't know where to begin.

new ones would be ok if manual trans was an option

That blue is really nice, but I'm all about going for the value of used cars over a new car. The newest car I ever bought was 5 years old at the time (a 2012 in 2017).

I believe he’s a college student, so coming up with that kind of cash can be difficult.

When we go to replace my girlfriend’s Camry, I’ll be tempted to get a Highlander or another Camry. Hers has had very little maintenance other than oil changes for 220k miles and yet it’s more reliable than anything else her family owns (140k mile Trailblazer, 180k mile Town and Country, although they might have sold that because it couldn’t go in reverse, and a new Wrangler which has been a typical FCA product). I still don’t like driving it because it’s boring and slow but she doesn’t mind so beige is way to go.

Yeah but why start driving it in reverse?

True. But...

Pretty sure he needs a car. S o it’s either get a small loan or get whatever shitbox he could pay cash for. There was someone here that tried to do that, pretty sure that “cheap” car costs a lot more than one that was double the price.

Some people can’t scrape enough cash together outright, but need reliable transportation to have a productive life. Who cares about a 4k loan when the alternative is to be nearly unemployable.

I’m in college and don’t have a lot of cash, I bought my last car in cash for $3,500 but that was after saving for a while. I got t boned by a driver who ran a red and didn’t get paid by insurance because I had minimal coverage. I needed a car immediately as I live 25 miles f rom school and work and couldn’t  wait to save up and didn’t have enough to buy a cheaper car. If I hadn’t I wouldn’t have had a car and would have lost my job and had to drop out. So I financed for $5000 and paid $500 in cash and paid for insurance and taxes and registration out of pocket as well.

Yeah I’m on that thinking train too, especially if I’m buying something as reliable as a Camry. This is the newest I’ve bought at 7 years old.

That’s why I bought one, I’m poor and I’m school and needed something reliable to get me the 50 miles per day to work and class. I’m hoping to have something more fun some day but this is what I need right now.

Fair enough. I suppose that your finance is much cheaper than over here. That sort of loan here would come with 10 to 15% interest per annum , calculated monthly. If you want a short term loan (less than a year) then double it.

So only those that are truly desperate enough or just plain daft actually finance a $5000 car in Oz.

Yeah I got a 3.8% rate from my credit union which is pretty good.
